Born in 1948, Mike Ashley has been interested in sf, fantasy and weird fiction
for about as long as he could read, and certainly as long as he could listen
to the radio with JOURNEY INTO SPACE and other serials. Began to appear
in fanzines in 1965; made his first professional sale in 1973 and since then
has published over sixty books and over 600 articles and essays. Although
most of the books are anthologies he has also compiled THE COMPLETE INDEX
TO ASTOUNDING/ANALOG and THE SUPERNATURAL INDEX (with Bill Contento) and
such wide-ranging reference books as THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD, THE
MAMMOTH BOOK OF BRITISH KINGS AND QUEENS, KING ARTHUR and the children's
reference books ALL THE INCREDIBLE FACTS YOU WILL EVER WANT TO KNOW and INCREDIBLE
MONSTERS. He retired from his full-time job in Local Government in 1999,
after 32 years, and now writes full time. He has just completed his long
promised biography of Algernon Blackwood and is revising his HISTORY OF THE
SF MAGAZINE in 3 volumes, Volume 1 just having been published. He is married
to Sue, a social worker, and lives in Kent.
