Juha Lindroos, a Finnish native currently residing in the United States with his wife, has been a lifelong reader, doodler, and opinionated critic of science fiction cover art. Having spent 10 years as a bored government bureaucrat, he can take and swallow all the criticism aimed at his work with a content belch.

His work is mostly an abstract attempt at conveying the feel and texture of the book rather than illustrating a specific scene, trusting the reader and the writer to combine their powers of imagination in bringing the work visually alive.

His influences, most bearing little or no resemblance to his work, include Hannes Bok, Pieter Brueghel, Paul Orban, Weegee, Jack Gaughan, Gustav Klimt, Leo & Diane Dillon, Frank R. Paul, Ed Emsh, Bill Sienkiewicz, Man Ray, Ted McKeever, Amadeo Modigliani, Mal Dean, Jean Giraud, Cindy Sherman, Enki Bilal, Richard Powers, Hugo Pratt, Brian Lewis, Edward Hopper, among many others.

Besides his covers for Cosmos Books (he has designed over 40 of the Cosmos books, with half of those featuring his original cover art), he works as a Web & Graphic Designer for a Sony-owned dot com company in Louisville, Kentucky, where he does occasional reviews and interviews while making attempts at writing fiction. He is currently also working on short 3D animations and designing books for High Stakes Publishing, Catalyst Press, and others.

He is co-founder of the oiva design group (ODG) with his partner in clime, art and life, Kathleen Martin.

His portfolio can be located at oivas.com.
